A group of 10 left for North Carolina to a church camp called Lutherock
As for camps there are few that are fine(ah). We’d have a good time; that was a lock
–
The camp provided us with guides: Two counselors: Katelyn and Lou
Katelyn was gentle, quiet and wise; Lou was like a monkey in the zoo
–
Our first task was to chop big ol’ stumps; a wood-splitter made the task quite easy
In the woods, the stinging nettle gave us bumps
But the weather was nice with that cool mountain breezy
–
The firewood we chopped will go to folks in the winters
to provide heat for their homes, just watch out for splinters
–
To rock climb, we hiked up Sugar Mountain
An elevation gain of 600 feet
We looked to the top; our hearts nearly stopped
But Lou said, “Yo, it’ll be sweet!”
–
Disc golf was a game played by the boys, in an old Christmas tree lot
full of waist-high weeds that made us sneeze; we threw frisbees into big pots
–
An orphanage was where we spent day two; weeding flower beds in the morn
In the afternoon we made friends new. Leaving those kids made our hearts feel torn
–
Please pray for those children. We’re thankful they have somewhere to go
That God loves them, we hope they know
–
On Wednesday we went white-water rafting up the river named Nolichucky
Both guides kept us laughing. That Ian survived is quite lucky
Six paddlers were floating on one of the rafts; four fell out and the other two laughed.
–
Back at camp, some bravely climbed Alpine Tower – a structure measuring sixty feet
The view from below made the moms cower. Making it to the top was a treat
–
In the end a good time was had by all
Some said, “Let’s come back in the fall!”
–
On Thursday we loaded up the cars.
A mission trip is effective when it follows this directive:
We touched peoples’ hearts and they touched ours
